A-Minima
Aaton Cameras
The Aaton A-Minima is a compact s16mm film camera known for its lightweight, low-profile design, making it ideal for handheld and documentary-style shooting. Introduced in 1999, it uses proprietary 200-foot daylight spools, meaning standard 400-foot rolls of film need to be respooled onto A-Minima-compatible loads—a service we can provide with about a week's notice. The camera features a native PL mount, making it fully compatible with most Super 16 PL-mount lenses, and will soon be upgraded with a Mothco HD video tap for modern monitoring and video assist. The A-Minima can be fully kitted with accessories like matte boxes, follow focus, onboard monitoring, and power solutions, making it a production-ready package despite its discreet form factor.
It runs at a crystal-controlled speed of 24 fps, with variable frame rates available from 3 to 36 fps, and features a fixed 144° mirror shutter optimized for minimal motion blur and compact design.
